I did great zimbabwe and mapungubwe in school. they weren't shona, they were the precursers to the nguni people. they were advanced during their time and even established trade links with the arabs of tanzania's zanzibar and mozambique's north-east coast. * +

mapungubwe was a historic site in the limpopo province of sa. They had a king or tribal chief in the centre. some kraals and the rest of the people live concentrically around the king. * +

to understand the nguni ppl of Southern Africa, I suggest you visit Lesedi Land in the NW province near rustenburg. I've been there many years ago, part of a primary school trip. Was cool! It was also shown in 'The Amazing Race'. The one where Rob is in. *
