When you read the bible the people there are in direct communication with God... Angels visit them, the voice of God audibly guides them. Men ask and God answers... Today people are more willing to believe you if you say God spoke to you through an inspired thought. But, what if you say you heard a voice? * +

Personally I dont believe they're out of use. I believe we can still hear God's voice audibly, see angels, receive visions etc... * +

I dont believe God has any direct contact. Instead, it is omnipotent, permeates creation and influences us via natural phenomena. But I do believe there are 'higher' beings, that are closer to God, and they act as mediums. I also believe there are 'lower' beings that in a sense have a part to play in the soul evolution process. * +
