As far as I know.... one of my dad's bro when he was getting married, his father in law demanded a lot of gold from him for his daughter even though he is a rich man himself, and the reason for that was, he wanted to make divorcing difficult if my uncle was going to turn out to be a user, which he wasnt, they've been married 15 years now and he treats his wife like queen. * +

well....... here in the very country u live in, it is tradition for the man to ask the fater if he may marry his daughter, the bride's family pays for the weddin, reception, minus the groom nd best man's clothes nd alcohol, that is the groom's responsibility.... * +
