Do you think it possible? Which version is most accurate? Which version of the bible has the most authentic and easy rendition which a layman can use on its own? * +

Contrary to what many think, the slight variations in rendition have a drastic effect and a slight variation in punctuation can alter the entire meaning of a text. A comma placed behind or after the word 'today' for instance in lk 22:43 has been the contention which theologians in opposing camps have fought on, and the correct position of the comma determines whether you will believe that Jesus went to paradise during his death or not. * +

Another rather humorous finding I came upon recently was in a debate between Jews and Christians on Daniel's 70 week prophecy, determining whether Daniel led to Jesus ministry or not. The entire divide too hinges on an apostrophe-like sign (') between numbers. Depending on whether you ignore it or consider it, the timeline shifts drastically. You can see this if you compare KJV and RSV on Daniel 9. The point being that, in terms of bible translations, 'mostly accurate' is not good enough. A * +

Then there's the technicalities of rendering difficult words. Attempts at this have lead to some funny statements, like when the KJV speaks of birds with four legs (leviticus 11:20) etc..... Debating theology is almost chasing a moving target. Each side has versions supporting its opinions and insist that the opponents version is incorrect. Then you draw out lexicons, concordances, transliterations... Its too technical for most laymen to grasp. Thus authoritative understanding remains in the * +
