Note that in the bible, often 'the world' was a phrase used to describe the globe as a whole in one sense, but the exact word 'erets' Could refer to just a section, perhaps the known or familiar territories. So whichever version one accepts doesn't really have to center on the bible using words like 'flooding the earth/world' etc. If you believe in the flood, which version do you deem more likely? * +

If there was an event in actual recent history that would be the basis for the story.. The Black Sea is a good candidate. Flooded through the Bosporus Strait. Impacted on a number of countries, Turkey being one of them. * +

places like mexico, the sahara desert, egypt, iraq and the whole middle east was once a lush green environment, these areas are sometimes described as eden, the reason it turned to a dust bowl was because earths rotation changed in relation to its eliptic orbit, the equator is closer to the sun during summer, it changes every 11,000yrs.. * +

local. global is unlogical. The world to them back then was just their known area. They wouldn't of known if the entire world was flooded * +

I'm still deliberating but I agree with you guys to an extent. A local flood is least improbable. According to the story all the mountains were buried in water. Consider mount Everest, which is now most likely shorter than then. But even in the current global landscape, to have enough water to do this would need a MINIMUM of 4.5 billion cubic kilometres of water. The current total volume of water in ALL the oceans is around 1.3 billion cubic kilometres. We are talking of more than tripple t * +
