Belly dance has ancient roots connected to goddess reverence and celebrating the femenine. The real term is raqs sharqi, belly dance comes from a french term coined by a guy who went to the east and saw the dance sum 100 years ago. In egypt they hav laws against floor work and certain hip movements in belly dance, and with the atire, these laws only happened during the 1900. Its more graceful and constrained than lebanese or turkish style belly dance, which is more playfull and uninhibitted * +
