I've come across numerous testimonies of people claiming to have seen hell or been transported there somehow. The internet is rife with such tales. A leading site is spiritlessons.com. * +

There and in other places you find stories like Bill Wiese, Angelica Zambrano, Mary Baxter etc meticulously re-telling their experiences which can indeed be convincing and terrifying, except for one critical element which is completely lifted from superstition and is directly the opposite of what scripture says about hades and gehenna. * +

This is simply this claim: Satan rules over hell and there are demons there roaming unfettered, tormenting the lost. * +

EVERY connection in the bible between satan and his demons with hell describes it being THEIR punishment, not their Kingdom over which they rule. And EVERY scripture describing God's punishing of sinners has him USING ANGELS, not demons, to execute his vengeance, right from the angel of death in egypt, balaam incident, right UP TO the time of judgement when the angels gather the wicked up. These visions INVERT the scripture 180 degrees. * +

Well,'hell' is used for words that mean different things so it's translation error. Satan and his angels will end up in the lake of fire along with 'hell' - Revelation 20:10,14. Agree with you purest1. Plus Satan moved freely back and forth from heaven to earth even in Job's time. Job 1:6,7, 2:1,2. So no, he didn't,and doesn't,preside over a hell. And he wouldn't be cast out of heaven until a future time from when the apostle John wrote Revelation. -Revelation 12:7-12 * +

True way2go, gehenna is actually the lake of fire and hades will be thrown into it. The third concept which has been misunderstood and mistranslated to be hell is tartarus, which has no reference to humans but describes restrained fallen angels. Even if tartarus were actually gehenna or even a section of gehenna (as most evangelicals say), what is described of demons in tartarus is radically different from the popular view. 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 1:6... CHAINED with chains of darkness, reserved for the judgement. NOT free and ruling over a kingdom. * +

But the language describing fallen angels in tartarus is clear enough that its a spiritual not literal chaining. It makes it clear that they're not chained with literal chains but with CHAINS OF DARKNESS, spiritual darkness. And we know for sure that the demons are nowhere else but right here on earth, where God has chained them. * +
