Indeed @oregirl. But generally I think whereas sacrifices required kosher animals, devoting something to God allowed for anything of great value to you to be given up to God. If you go through that Leviticus passage I gave you'll see that several precious things from animals, fields and even humans could be devoted to God. What's interesting is verse 29 which rules that a human devoted in this special way can't be gotten back but 'must surely be put to death'. Jephthah probably made his vow * +
