Contrary to popular opinion, he hasn't violated any laws. If he has in fact leaked information, its because he identified war crimes committed by Americans. In terms of UN conventions of war that have been internationally ratified, he has in fact followed the law. Despite this, he is being tortured in prison, denied basic rights like haebeus corpus. All for speaking the truth and outting murderers. Duaas please for this victim of oppression. * +

Nelson Mandela broke the law. Rosa Parks broke the law. The suffragette movement broke the law. Ghandi broke the law. As long as the law is unjust, it must not be followed. In this matter however, soldier are bound by a code of conduct and are required to follow the rules of law. Bradley Manning is being punished for following the law. Do yourself a favour and actually study the law before you pass an opinion on it. * +

Actually beige1 .. They broke unjust laws to perpetuate justice, to expose the truth, to empower victims of abuse. Mandela was NO Ghandi. Mandela went on to become a democratically elected president of his country and an international peace maker. Both started off as lawyers, but only one managed to unite his people (mostly). Think about that. But worse still, is that Bradley Manning is being tortured and denied a public trial. Something none of the popular heroes endured. * +

Mandela was a terrorist. did the laws need changin? without a doubt YES. but the ANC were terrorists. i have respect for Mandela nd how he turned out, but let us not romanticise what he nd the ANC were. there was nothin peaceful abt them. * +

lol Beige1 .. It always surprises when fellow South Africans (mostly white South Africans) are so ignorant about our own history. Of course they were terrorists. They were also freedom fighters, rebels, a force of passive resistance. Lets not romanticise what happened. Most of what happened was unavoidable because of the support whites lent to apartheid. This is also undeniable fact. So if we're dropping pretences, you must be materially fair with the facts. * +
