Compare that to living conditions of people in the 12th century in Europe's dark ages. People worked in perpetual Serfdom for a landlord. The quality of their lives was dependent on the countenance of that specific family. If that lord deemed education necessary, then you would receive an education. If not, tough. But that was the system of the day. Its not right by our modern standards... * +

But social systems are actually a function of our development. And freedom is a relative concept in a society that demands specific standards of behaviour. Its not semantics dude ... Its where we all came from. We weren't born civilised. Social systems mould us and we in turn mould the system. We are not inherently advanced! * +
