Bible prophecy is fascinating and my personal favourite to study and get the opinions of different people on the meanings and times. Most prophecy books are in the old testament but the most comprehensive book is in the new, Revelation. Some people think that its IMPOSSIBLE to get around the confusing symbols and get a clear picture of what the prophecy is saying. * +

Most christians will read the gospels and epistles but when they get to Revelation they yawn and shut the book, believing it to be encoded in symbolism appropriate to a certain cultural and temporal context. However you find something fascinating and encouraging when you compare the chief old testament book of prophecy, Daniel, to Revelation. Here goes: * +

God had given great apocalyptic prophecies and Daniel had recorded them. But listen to what the angel tells him: ''And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are CLOSED UP AND SEALED until the time of the end.'' Daniel 12:9 notice that God had closed up all human decoding of these prophecies UNTIL the time of the end, our time. * +

Now compare what was said with what the angel says after revealing the book of Revelation: ''And he said unto me, SEAL NOT the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.'' Revelation 22:10 The exact opposite of what God did in Daniel. He sealed up Daniel until our time but he sent out this book as an OPEN book. It has always been possible to decipher it, since it was written. * +

Prophecy has many functions but the main one is to be our eyes in the prophetic time-line. So we can see where we are and what's coming our way. Of course it requires a certain wisdom to understand it as demonstrated in Revelation 13:18 but with diligent study and prayer its possible. Prophecy is an invaluable treasure and compass for us. We just cant ignore it. Not now when the end is near. * +

The accuracy too strikes you. You find the entire history of apocalyptic significance from the 1st century to the end played out in symbols which can be decoded by reference to previous prophecy scriptures. The role of America, ecumenism and the move towards continental unions and an ultimate global confederation under the antichrist figure etc. Its a great book to investigate. * +
