i think depending on who the leader is is the language spoken. it was once roman. in this era it is english speaking countries that colonized most of the world. * +

English is spoken by about 309 million people whereas Mandarin Chinese is spoken by 873 million and Spanish by 322 million. So it goes Mandarin, Spanish then English. However, those are figures for native speakers; as many people learn English around the world, the real number of speakers is more like 1.5 billion which puts it in first place and means that it's about 25. * +
