Woe unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! You travell land and sea to make one convert and when you get him you make him twice a son of hell as much as you are! Woe unto you pharisees, hypocrites! For you do not enter into the kingdom of God and you prevent them that want to enter in. Woe unto you.... These words are familiar but do we understand why Jesus h*t them so hard? * +

Heading should be pharisaism. Made a mistake. I want to show you why Jesus h*t hard on pharisaism and what happened to pharisaism after christianity came on the scene. * +

This truth may be hard to sw*llow but when Jesus came on the scene he found a degenerating Judaism being led by an elite sect called the 'separated ones' or pharisees. Their main rivals were sadducees. The Judaism of Jesus' time had been corrupted by pharisees. For instance did you know that 1st century Judaism believed in reincarnation, a teaching which Judaism still holds? * +

In matthew 16 Jesus had attracted attention and he asked his disciples what the general populace thought he was. He asked them, 'Who do people say I am?' look at the feedback.. Some say you are John the Baptist (he was dead), some Elijah, others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. The view of jewry was that people get reborn. They interpreted malachi 4:5 literally that Elijah would be reborn. * +

The pharisees claimed to have in their custody the unwritten torah and devised a parallel oral scripture called the 'traditions of the elders', the mishna. Jesus condemned this in Mark 7:7. Did it disappear? What happened to pharisaism? The diaspora of 70 AD was a disaster to Judaism and left a void which pharisaic Rabbis immediately seized. They completely took over Judaism. * +

Do you note that the disciples were not afraid 2 suggest this to jesus either. * +

What followed thereafter was the disappearance of Judaism. Literally! The pharisaic clergy replaced the priestly tradition with their own conjured view of history and completely re-invented Judaism. They apostated it and what remained after that was Pharisaism. What we call Judaism today is actually pharisaism. Their ideas were written into another Holy Book, the Talmud. * +

And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (Matthew 16:14-16). Is there any rebuke there from jesus ? No there isn't * +
