A wild guess would be white phosphorus that has settled in the ground from the bombings. It is toxic and can remain for years. I'm not sure if a link has been established but it is in no way good for your health. * +

Masterly is probably right with depleted uranium bullets that can shoot through tank armour.. Just take a look at the history of depleted uranium and the effects it has on the human body, youre likely to find identical cases from past events and those of today.. Its like stabbing a person with a diseased knife so if the knife doesnt kill you then the disease probably will.. * +
