It's unprecedented and devastating. The health effects on anyone who lives anywhere near the beach are largely being ignored by our government. The state government was gaslighting us, telling us the fish were safe to eat and that everything will be fine. Federal government refuses to label it as a natural disaster..

For many South Australians the effects on mental health are taking their toll, we can't do the little things we took for granted. The coast is our identity, our way of life.

It's a pity we didn't look after it with more care. Although the precise origins and causes aren't exactly clear, it seems to be merely a visual symptom of a much bigger problem.. a dying ocean.

As summer approaches it's unclear what is in store next, we have been warned this situation could continue for years or perhaps decades. * +

People are getting sick if they go anywhere near the beach, it's shocking.. millions of animals have died. Ah, but they're all in the ocean.. so pretty much nobody cares. Probably most of you have heard absolutely nothing about it..

It's completely bizarre how bushfires get so much attention, yet the same thing happens to our coastline.. absolutely zero publicity. * +

it's not really as serious though in all fairness is it, I mean it's not like the oxygen we all breathe gets produced by the oceans... oh! * +

My guess would be that rising sea temperatures are allowing the algae to flourish much more easily than it has before, or possibly some type of marine life that would usually eat the algae before it becomes a problem is no longer doing that for some reason, perhaps it could even be some combination of the two.dontknow.gif * +

Or it could be due to chemical fertilisers leeching out of farmland into the rivers that is subsequently flowing out into the ocean and inadvertently providing these these algal blooms with masses of fertiliser.dontknow.gif * +
