Depends on the variety and how/where they're grown. Tomatoes in warmer climates are usually sweeter, the more sunlight they receive the sweeter they get. Also, never eat a chilled tomato straight from the fridge, always let them warm up to room temperature first, or ideally don't keep them in the fridge at all. The cold kills the flavour.
Always season them with a pinch of salt and I find a dash of worcestershire sauce always perks up even the dullest, barely ripe and pale orange coloured supermarket tomato.

Good tips, i don't keep any fruit or veg in the fridge and i always keep them on the stalks if they have them (such as vine tomatoes in this case). I haven't tried Worcester sauce with them. * +

You should have tried my 'millions' tomatoes I grew. They were like sweets

I could actually grow some, i grew some with my granddad when i was a teen, they just grew directly in cut-open soil bags. * +

Yes! I'm doing exactly that this year. Growbags are cheap and it's good fun. You could get your kid involved. Get on it soon though *
