Remembering those who gave their lives so that we could enjoy ours The pilots from many countries. Young lads, lucky if they survived a month. They had no fear. They said it was their duty, their job... We owe them so much * +

I knew one of the old boys who flew both Spitfires and Hurricanes from one of the local wartime airfields. He settled in the area after the war and worked on the farm when I was a really young lad, as strong as an ox he was. Nice old bloke, gave me a wooden toy tractor that he'd carved himself.(think i've still got it somewhere, probably in a box in the loft at my mum's house)

Konrad Nowaki was his name, 306 Squadron Polish Air Force. * +

watched a program about them the other day, brave bunch of lads and lasses salute.gif the R.A.F deliberatly used to ethnically mix the crews up, so there wouldnt be any racial problems. We had pilots and ground crew from all over the world. * +

The Poles were. They had already seen their country invaded by Germany. So they had that to fuel their anger. After the war those what tried to return to Poland were taken prisoner or killed by the Russians which is why many remained here * +
