A couple of questions for anyone(in the UK*) who has been furloughed from their place of work.

Has your employer/boss or a senior employee(managers, etc) asked you to do any work or work related activities/tasks whilst you have been furloughed from your job?

Did you know that they(and potentially yourself) are breaking the law if they(you) have done so? * +

I suppose its a type of fraud i guess?
All our furloughed lads have been sat at home, i was about a few hours away from being furloughed myself on friday until next weeks job got to go ahead at the last minute * +

Not been furloughed but been at home most of the time on full pay but I suppose some companies have furloughed staff as they can't afford to pay a wage right now and if they are asking them to do a couple of things to help out from home to maybe help stop the company going bust after this then maybe its best for the employee being asked to do so to do it and not say anything or risk being jobless at the end of it. * +

Turns out that some employers who have furloughed their staff have been expecting them to continue working from home whilst furloughed or to perform work related duties/tasks outside of their usual workplace.

This is illegal. The furlough scheme is supposed to be used to help workers who would otherwise have been laid off or made redundant due to the coronavirus, not for employers to use as an excuse to stop paying wages themselves and instead use government money to pay their workers a reduced rate(80'/.).

If your employer has furloughed you, it should have been because they would otherwise have had to lay you off or make you redundant. Meaning that they didn't have any work for you to do. So, if they are still asking you to work for them whilst furloughed, then they obviously do still have work for you and they shouldn't have been laying you off or making you redundant in the first place, so they should still be paying you for your work at the full rate themselves, not getting the government to pay you 80'/. of what they would normally pay you. * +

* don't know what the laws are outside the UK, so can't comment on that, but non UK users feel free to comment. Is the situation the same or similar wherever you are? * +

I doubt you can legally, it'd be like receiving job seekers while working. * +
