It is a bad common practice by news editors. Once, you see race/nationality/religion in the news heading, then you should be careful of having attitudes/emotions diverted in the wrong way.
Examples
(1) A Chinese lady was found doing xyz....
(2) A group of Sudanese were captured in xyz...
Majority of people thinking will spontaneously be diverted to think of that race/nationality as the reason of what happened, then online fights start, rather than looking at the real piece of news and how to tackle bad sides of humanity

Sometimes it's appropriate, and it's the fault of the reader of they wish to interpret information in a negative way.
Should we ban age and sex then, too?
''A person has been arrested for preventing a train from leaving a platform, yesterday. The person, who blocked the line, was protesting about something. We can't say what, as it'd expose their personal circumstances.'' * +

I wanna see who's who. I want people to expose themselves for who and what they are, through freedom of speech, expression, movement.
The more we try to protect the weak from being offended, the more we cover for toxic people, and push them underground.
People think for themselves. They always will. We've seen the pressure from the media and politicians to bend public opinion and where has it got them in hard practice?

Them fkn Yiddos! Typical football supporters! Yobs!
Yeah I wanna see these hecklers. I want them to flex their dynamics of context. We don't need to know the brakes of a bus failed just yet. I want to see truth. And you only get that through freedom of... everything. * +

The problem occurs when that piece of information is literally irrelevant AND would mostly be misinterpreted
