I think it was your government knowing that their populace will put up with anything.. it was completely unnecessary and counterproductive. How do you stimulate an economy by ensuring everyone has less? You don't, it doesn't work that way.

If we'd taken a lead from the French and started chopping off heads and burning sh*t down hundreds of years ago, we might not be in the mess that we are now. Oddly enough, wage growth rates in this country are currently at their lowest levels since the Napoleonic wars. * +

You double the price of necessary utilities,gas,water,electricity that way you increase profits and keep the population desperate and poor (relatively).
The aim is to take as much money from people,distract them with crap on TV and get them to believe it's other poor people who are making them poor.
People become distracted and too concerned with daily living and work to revolt.

People getting mad about how much it costs to house asylum seekers in this country and cheering on the government's plans to deport immigrants to Rwanda, ought to be apoplectic about how much it's been revealed it will actually end up costing the taxpayer if they get their way.

Based on what they've already spent on the scheme, agreements made with the Rwandan gov't on funding it all and the maximum number of people that might be sent there, it's likely to cost over 2million per person they send(if they send the maximum number they've agreed). That's more than 50x the amount it currently costs per person housing them here.

It ain't about the money. * +
