I caught the end of The Italian Job recently.. I swear when I saw it years ago they plunged off the edge of the cliff to their deaths, but they didn't. It was a literal cliffhanger. * +

You people suck.

I also remembered Steve McQueen escaping in The Great Escape. So, I was fairly disappointed when I saw it again and he failed. * +

I remember my mother loving me as a child...

Turns out that was wrong. * +

Once the memory leaves the short term memory of your brain and enters the long term memory area of your brain, you will definitely have recall errors. The human brain doesn't work like a hard drive. In long term memory the memory is stored in bits and pieces and when recalling that memory it automatically tries to fill in the missing pieces.
Your brain is much better at remembering smells, so that is exactly why memories associated with smells are more accurate. * +

I read or watched something once which explained that anytime you remember something, you're actually remembering the last time you remembered it and not the actual event. * +

The coach was supposed to go off, as per script. But they jump off first. Then go to the bottom to retrieve it. There, they find the Mafia.

I think the problem was that they couldn't be seen to win stolen gold, and neither could the mafia. So the safest ending politically was the cliff-hanger. Or perhaps they were stopped by the legal team, and had to use the cliffhanger instead that way.

Either way, the original script was said race to the gold at the bottom. * +

Yeah, that's particularly common/noticable with music, where as a kid you'll fill in lyrics and notes with how your brain wants to, only to hear the tune many years later and it not sound as you remember. * +
