4 x Tour de France winner Chris Froome is recieving intensive care in hospital after sustaining multiple serious, possibly career ending, injuries in a high speed crash. Froome was on a training/reconnaissance ride ahead of stage 4 of the Criterion de Dauphines, the historical classic cycle race traditionally used by the world's best riders as a warm up for the Tour de France in July. He was apparently hit by a strong gust of wind after sitting up in the saddle and riding non-handed in order to scratch his nose, losing his front wheel and hitting a wall at approx 60kmph, breaking a leg, his collarbone, several ribs and being knocked unconscious. He was airlifted to hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Froome was the favourite for this year's tour, bidding to reclaim the title he conceded last year to his team mate Geraint Thomas and take a record equalling 5th TdF victory.
