What will people say?

I think most people probably have moments around certain people where they are what you might call 'hiding', but sometimes it's just about respect for others, you don't have to always say everything you think or act on every thought, and you can STILL be who you are. Caring about other people still matters. As long as you aren't breaking your own spirit to do so.

I mean, I definitely agree with you. Caring for others matters, but voicing your opinion does also (when it comes to social norms/customs that are repressive or socially constructed standards/expectations)

Like tranie said earlier, how will a change happen otherwise? History has shown that by raising your voice, you can bring about a change. Expressing yourself in a tactful/controlled manner hurts no one (depending on your views of course) and can help clarify issues, and even change somebody's opinion.

It's a very complicated world, with even more complicated people living in it. There are those that will listen, and those that won't. The won'ts can/will never be convinced. In such cases (as vampboy also said) it's pointless to even try. * +

I don't hide who and what I am... but as some have said... sometimes we do bite our tongues out of respect for others, it doesn't mean not being true to yourself tho. some thoughts don't have to become words. and not every aspect of our lives need to be broadcast...

I think we can be who we are and still have respect for others and show decorum at all times.

sometimes being ourselves isn't always easy tho, and sometimes it will upset ppl, we just need to decide what is the most important. * +

In real life i hide how strongly i feel about some things,i suppose.im meeting a lot of different people from different backgrounds.it's about choosing my battles.and tge fact that i already decided how to live my life myself and everyone else gets to do the same,my beliefs are too complex to get into lol.i bite my tongue * +

Agreed! Not every thought/opinion needs broadcasting, but this isn't about expression of thoughts really. I feel like this is going in a slightly different direction lol

I mean this in terms of conforming ourselves to the mould that society sets for us. The culture, social norms and customs are very much ground into us even when we don't believe so. We are all under the stress, influences and pressure of 'what will people say' and we don't leave ourselves open to allow for a more complete life. * +
