Ecars, self driving vehicles, smart homes, high speed connectivity, etc... All these are areas that the USA was leading the world with the wealthiest companies, ie: Apple and Microsoft, etc being based there...
Enter Huawei, who have developed from a tiny 4 man company about 30 years ago into a technological giant that exists today posing a threat to US technological dominance...
The threat to security story is just a fluffy story, cause nobody can deny the US spies way more in any case.
I think the real story is that they've realised that Huawei is ultimately better and once the Huawei ecosystem switches up a level, the US based ecosystems will loose hundreds of billions of dollars... * +

For example if you look at Apple, which is one ecosystem that Huawei wants to dominate eventually, Apple have watches, TV's, Computers, Laptops, and are said to be working on a car...
Huawei has all the above too... And as I saw in a demo video showing the Hongmeng system they have their own maps and navigation system independent of Google, which Apple lacks, I'm not sure what other services they offer, but the system is solid and based on Linux so multi platform, and apparently will be available for cars, hinting at some RND going on...
So basically it would appear that Huawei is working on Smart tech in a serious way, most probably resulting in an eventual Huawei House, where everything from your pillow to your toaster is linked and automated and usable from an app on your phone, n I bet they'll beat Apple to it too, lol * +

USA is paranoid about everything!
Be it Huawei fake spying shoeite , Turkey or India buying Russian arms instead of American ones, or Germany buying Russian gas instead of American gas. * +
