'Microsoft also promised to invest approximately 150 million for shares of Apple non-voting preferred stock. Though the Mac faithful at the time were wary of Microsoft, Steve Jobs at the time famously explained that we have to let go of this notion that for Apple to win, Microsoft has to lose.

The deal between the two companies was mutually beneficial from every angle. Apple got some much needed cash while Microsoft was able to keep a weakened competitor afloat, thereby alleviating concerns about the company's monopolistic power.' * +

the opening line of an article I read said the 2002 decree ended 21 years of anti trust issues for Microsoft. haven't found further details in print

[link]http://www.seattletimes.com/business/microsoft/long-antitrust-saga-ends-for-microsoft/[/link] that's not all going to be in relation to Netscape when the internet didn't exist at the time. * +

The above article confirms the first investigations of them started in 1990. In 2002 their issues ended, it's 21 years since the article was published in 2011 when the they began not 21 years prior to 2002. * +

The decree didn't end their troubles in 2002 it was when it was issued, it expired in 2011. * +

yup re-reading it says 2011 was the end date so 21 years ended there.

I can't find anything mentioning a bailout before 97 either. *
