We've got a big new shiny shopping mall, with loads of restaurants, up market shops and cinema.
In the other direction we've got Sainsbury's and a Costa coffee joint, great bus and rail links, 10 minute drive to airport and city centre.
Still too many bookmakers and takeaways though, hardly any old pubs left and no mosque YET... * +

Yeah I'm happy with the progress, it's been known as a deprived area since the 50s, but the last 10-15 years have seen big investment and improvements.
Lots of new house building goin on at the moment, local crime at an all time low. It's all good... * +

Pretty much the same shyte, different millennium. We had a bakery in 1991, it's been a fish n chip shop since. The chemist is now a booze shop. The main convenience store is the same tho.

As for the town, well the shopping mall was the biggest on the planet when opened in '79, it's since expanded slightly but the area isn't a hundred percent sparkling. There's been some poor planning, management, and some things have changed for the worst.

With the shrinkage of the displayed retail industry, it's difficult to see where they're going with the place - the boom in the restaurant/bar culture has been catered for on surrounding plots in the town centre. * +
