Self-regulation of social media ''has failed disabled people'', according to MPs who have backed a petition calling for new laws, led by model Katie Price.

More than 220,000 people supported her demand to make online abuse a criminal offence after she flagged up trolling about her son Harvey's disabilities.

Now MPs on the Petitions Committee want the government to give disabled people protection under hate crime laws.

why can't it be covered under the existing online abuse law? * +

obi_jon 22.01.19 - 10:52am
The existing laws need amending as it's not currently covered. * +

abuse is abuse imo. it should all be covered without needing to mention it by name. * +

Should, yes, but it isn't. I'm no fan of Katie Price but I do agree with her on this. Some of the trolling aimed at her son Harvey is horrendous. * +

She's a hideous, skint, publicity wh*re, has been.
She puts her whole life out there, warts an all for the world to see, then bi**hes and wants us all to feel sorry for her when it backfires.
No sympathy for her whatsoever, poor Harvey on the other hand, having that sk*nk for a mother... * +

Not sure mel. I know that trolls have targetted Katie Price by mocking her disabled son but I don't know if he has his own social media accounts. * +
