a Dutch man who is about to turn 70 has being denied the right to change his age... the court's have ruled against him. he wanted to change his age to better his prospects of dating etc, saying he doesn't feel 70.

in a world where ppl may change their gender, name etc legally is this ruling fair or not? * +

In my opinion, your age is a fact. Stating you are 20 years younger wouldn't alter that fact. It would be silly if a thirty year old guilty of crime could get a lesser sentence because he claims to be a juvenile. Likewise if thirteen year olds claimed to be old enough to buy alcohol.

Car insurance, life insurance, tax liability, and some benefits are all affected by age. We cant have a system where everyone picks the age that suits them.


On the other hand, I also think one cannot really change their gender. Genetically you will always be an XX or XY chromosome match. Science still cannot change that fact. You could participate in all the hormonal therapy to your choosing, or and go under the knife and have all the modifications done you want, but you can't change your genetic sex or birth sex.

I still think however that It has become sexually and socially acceptable to allow transgenders to assume their desired sex. There is a vigorous legal mechanism in most states to do so, and that is only when a vast number of medical and psychological measures have been undertaken in a vast majority of cases. Even then they will always test as their birth gender the same one they had on their birthday.

it's a floodgates type of situation, our names are not unique identifiers by themselves. if they allowed a legal precedent to be set it would make things much more difficult than they already are. * +
