ok, thinking of getting a solar set up running due to the load shedding and the inconveniences caused...
I'm pretty clueless, but I've calculated that the lights use about 300w worth of power, n then there's the TV n satellite, laptop and cellphone charger n fridge... n maybe kettle/microwave for a few minutes every now and then...
anyone know if a smallish set up could run this? n what kinda price wherever you are based... * +

yes you need a fork lift sized battery unless you plan on only using power during daylight hours * +

The panels won't be cheap, either. Not such a problem if you can use a low voltage - 24v preferably. * +

yes most serious DIYers try to buy Ex Diesel Submarine Batteries when they come up for sale , they still have years of life in them for such uses, but intended user wants way much more obviously.
.
