There was an episode of Sliders like this. It was a population control method in a world they visited. People could have anything they wanted, but took a suicide pill at 30yo. Some took that option. They saw the 'lifers' as selfish and a waste of space, for abstaining from it.

I never wanted much. I've had a million dreams, they couldn't all come true - above all i just wanted to enjoy myself as long as i could. Good job, really. * +
