Yes, 70 years old and despite it's problems I do feel blessed to have it here. Still one of the best health care systems in the world. Superb staff who generally do a good job under tremendous pressure * +

Desperate for staff. I read theres like 100,000 vacancies, but nobody wants to go into nursing. People moan about foreign labour but our education system has failed it. It doesnt have a problem attracting people wanting NHS money by other means, though. * +

having to study at degree level only to be paid a relative pittance it's not surprising there's a staff shortage for nurses. * +

Nursing is a lot more difficult now, my friends a nurse and shes been doing it for years, known her since she was doing her training as i dont live far from what used to be a nursing college, the amount of extra training and courses shes done since finishing her training is unbelievable, shes a manager now in charge of a department that cares for cancer patients but to get there its been about 15 years of on the job training and courses at UCH hospital in Euston. Now shes on a good wage for a nurse and works monday to friday, to get to this stage shes had to work sh*t hours, put under a lot of pressure from patients, bosses, patients families, dealing with death a lot. Its a difficult job and not many can do it in my opinion. I couldn't. * +

Is it? I've had a few conversations in the past few weeks and heard a lot of concerns. Not one mentioned violence against them. * +

No its not, A and E maybe but its very rare and anyone who does that deserves the full weight of the law on them. The money isnt very good, they get taken advantage of, always on their feet and under pressure. And what a lot dont think about is they deal with emotional things daily, they dont all have family or support away from work and live alone, imagine a young nurse who works on a cancer ward and got to know a patient since diagnosis and got to know the family of the patient and then the patient dies, that young nurse has nobody to talk to at home or have a hug off. Its difficult and causes some nurses a lot of problems. * +
