It was never his call to make. He's a tyrant, nothing more and nothing else, yet beneath all of that exterior is definitely a heart capable of caring.
I saw his relationship with Norrin Radd/Silversurfer and it showed me that he is a reasonable individual who can hold empathy for another individual, but his ideas are flawed.
It reminds me of Ozymandias from Watchmen, individuals such as these hold the belief that the ends justify the means, but rarely do they remember that violent means usually end up with violent ends also.
The peace manifested from such a process is rarely permanent.

I originally mistook Thanos with Galactus and wrote about him instead.

But Galactus- The legendary eater of planets is another really fascinating character, arguably also stronger than Thanos. Another comic book I would HIGHLY recommend is from the Fantasic four's story called ''The comic of Galactus''
To me, it really coincides with the caring heart of Galactus despite being an ammoral ruthless entity.

nothing wrong with watching or reading fiction

I tend to avoid it, generally. But I do watch the odd film occasionally. Watched Peter Rabbit at the weekend with the brat, so I'm not that grown up - I usually enjoy the films we watch at the cinema. * +
