DMT is a schedule A/class 1 drug illegal in most states. It acts as a psychedlic with strong hallucinogenic properties once administered to the human body, however the fascinating part is that such a chemical is found in plants as well as in rats and nearly all living organisms. There is a hypothesis that it is located in the third eye, commonly known as the pineal gland and it is released into the system during period of sleep and death.
It's fascinating to see that the powerful effects of such an extraordinary substance could explain many of the most power spiritual experience experiences by man. What is reality after all? It's your perception the way you see things and believe them accordingly but what of an alternate reality? Isn't that what philosophies of most religions and pillars of faith speak about? Angel showing up after death or the highest pillar of meditation experienced when man reaches Arhat or Nivana or to some known as God consciousness? The experiences of seeing streaks of Devils and Angel on account from spiritual teachers like Buddha or Jesus or even through the accounts of some modern day teachers? The accounts of near death experience to the most profound of dreams?
How would it impact your faith if we found conclusive evidence that a drug is acting as a gateway to alternative realities, and no amount of your moral impositions on others version of reality could make even an aota of difference, because hey I'd DMT and I saw a golden light towering from the skies in bliss and beauty. And I do mean it. Sorry for the rant, but I'd love to hear your opinions and views on the power of substances that contain hints towards an ever expanding consciousness.
also how does your faith play a role in it? * +

Read about it back in the day, Terrance McKenna and all that. Not really my thing now, I'd rather exist on planet earth.
Interesting idea to think about, did early man ingest something that altered his consciousness.. But we are immune to it now? Maybe it could be in something fairly common. * +

Oh and re: spiritual experiences. Isn't it strange they tend to involve someone on the peak of a mountain or sitting under a tree? * +

Yeah, I had my psychedlic days, grew out of them, now I just wonder the potential of human benefiting from more research on substances we have shunned and banned from society, because hey fu*k you.
There's also a saying, religion is the opium of masses I'm not here to take that opium from you, but once we stop questioning, and bend over with our as s backwards to the system, we lose capacity to think.
Also hey, shamanic rituals et al still have proper dates wherein they consume mind altering substances, who's to say their version of experience is any less than the version experienced by Buddha?
Also finally, we are altering our reality every single day by the choices we make, from the food we eat, to little decisions we make when we hold on to anger or let go and help others in pain and distress.

Yeah, I'm guessing the shaman phase was where it all really kicked off. David Suzuki used to talk about this stuff, find it fascinating. * +

I've a vague recollection of who he is, but can't put my fingers down on him.
I'll check his work out once I'm done with exams. * +
