Martin Shkreli, 34, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment on Friday
The disgraced pharmaceuticals rep sobbed as he asked the judge for mercy
He said he had made 'mistakes' and referred to himself in the third person
Shkreli was convicted of securities fraud in August last year in New York
He misappropriated money from investors and lied to them between 2009 and 2014 to fund two hedge funds
He was arrested in December 2015 after shooting to notoriety when he hiked up the price of a lifesaving HIV drug by 5,000
Shkreli was arrogant about his fate and thought he would be able to avoid jail
Among the challenges of his trial was finding a jury - hundreds of jurors were excused because they all hated him so much
It has not yet been decided where Shkreli will spend his time behind bars
