It seems they've been going for a couple of years now. Another scheme was buying 2 cups of coffee in a shop and that shop would give a free cup to a homeless person

In Glasgow there is an organisation called Loaves n Fishes which distributes food and donated clothing to homeless and needy
In Edinburgh there is a cafe that uses profits to actually house the homeless ,and there is a 'pay on' cafe too .. * +

last time i was in bristol i walked past a free shop nod.gif everything was free. I popped in and was talking to the hippy type behind the counter. It turned out they had been squatting in the shop and were gonna get evicted in a few days so they decided to open a shop giving stuff away. PPl would donate stuff and you could just take it. I thought it was an excellent idea. The hat and scalve thing is an excellent idea also. Theres a thing in london about giving books away, leaving them on the tube or on the bus for others to read. * +

Most of the clothes dumped here are dumped by the homeless. They have their business camps in the city centre where they rake it in, but they have their suburb camps hidden out in the bushy areas of the city. They move around regularly, and just leave their old tents, trash, clothing, gas bottles etc strewn all over the place.

This hasn't got any better. There's so much in the way of abandoned clothing, tents and sleeping bags in our town centre, left there by the homeless, that the last thing anyone's gonna do is add even more. *
