A friend of mine studying media is writing an essay on the role of controversies in film promotion, and he needs valuable input. I've already shared my views with him, but I still wanted to post it on here though to see what people think about it and know their opinions. So what do y'all think?

Let's say a film mocked a religion or something and there's a massive controversy about it, and a good chance that it may lead to violence to happen at the cinemas - will that make people go watch it or avoid it? Do controversies help or hurt the films?

Probably would make more ppl want to go see what the fuss is abt * +

I remember when Bruce Almighty was abt to be released and I got so many chain sms etc to say all Christians should boycott the movie as it mocked God. When in actual fact it turned out to be quite the opposite with, to me, a very strong pro not anti msg regarding God *
