Have you watched Sons of Anarchy, Kim? I found that to be a lot better than expected. Definite top 3.

The IRA sh*t bugged the fu*k out of me. * +

I've watched thru twice, I can see it's quality no problem. the true to life portrayal of cringe worthy screw ups is my real issue. I can't cheer for Tony when I'm embarrassed for/by him, and almost everyone is like that. Junior, Silvio and cousin whatshisface all fu*k ups.

They're not meant to be cheered though, the show is quite open about all of them being psychopaths. Even non violent characters like Carmella are extremely manipulative. I think David Chase said the audience overwhelmingly cheering for the guys was more a commentary on the audience themselves.

Although they did overly glamourize their lifestyle and wealth when in reality the equivalent mobsters were living hand to mouth in that era.

There are real FBI tapes of the Jersey mafia thinking the show was based on them and being excited to watch it every week. An FBI agent said they were pretty much like the guys on the show except more pathetic and were scr*ping a living rather than living it up. * +

cheering is just the word I reached for, Tony is still our protagonist for better or worse and he wasn't often someone you could empathise with.

gave it my best go, doubt I'll appreciate on different terms now. *
