Y'all must have seen videos where someone helps a poor needy person or where someone helps a stray cat/dog or where someone tips the underpaid waiter/waitress, and then they take a video/picture with them and post it on social media. How do we feel about it- an act of kindness or boasting? Thoughts? * +

How do they know they're going to help a poor needy person or a stray cat before they film it?
Of course it's all rehearsed and prepared for people to think they're good hearted people but really it's for their own benefit but at the same time they're helping people or animals so it's catch 22 really, can you honestly say that every good deed you do isn't to get some sort of ego boost or would you really help people without them or other people knowing about it?

Even without anyone knowing about it you still do so it makes you feel good about yourself so to really help people selflessly is actually a hard thing to do. * +

I reckon at the end of the day what really matters is that someone got help. Ego trip or not for the giver the main thing is that someone received something that helped them. * +

One thing that irritates me is employees on Undercover Boss who pretend they don't know they are on the show and then their whole life is a sob story. Boo hoo. Get over it. * +

A friend and I got into an argument over this. I'll tell you what happened. So, I saw a video where this dude helped a poor old man (who was selling books on the roadside) by buying all his books and giving him money, and he recorded the whole thing. In the comments section, everyone was singing his praises and wishing for more people in the world like him.

I got mixed feelings. It's a nice gesture, but no need for all of the attention. If you watched the video, it seemed SO degrading. He was making a circus of it, and then he further exploited the old man by filming it and posting the video online. Even if he asked for consent (which, somehow, I doubt) he's taking advantage because the old man is poor and the vulnerable one in this situation, and I don't look favourably on that.

Google Varun Pruthi. You'll find his FB fan page and videos on YouTube. He's a YouTuber so he has many 'look at me, I'm doing a good deed' videos. To me, he seems to be using these people to promote himself. * +

My friend basically said the same thing. Additionally, he said that posting online inspires others, encourages people blah blah and criticized me for being upset about the fact that someone is getting helped and I ain't appreciating it. TBH, it doesn't bother me. I'm just calling what it is. It's pure exhibitionism (my opinion) and I can't appreciate it. I'm happy that the dude is doing something nice for the destitute and they're getting the help, but the way he talks to them in his videos, films it and then preaches how we should all do the same really irks me.

Inspire? Encourage? Yeah, right. That's not the reason why people post on FB. It probably inspires the fake attention seeking lot to play Robin Hood on camera. A true charitable person doesn't need inspirations from FB/YouTube to be kind. I believe it's in-built. If you truly are a good person, you will help/give without filming it or garnering likes/followers/subscribers. Just do the good deed, and that's it. No showboating. * +
