I do not own a car now, but had en escort mk2 estate, think it had 5 or 6 counting reverse. I now have a mountain bike, that has 16 gears but no reverse, pmpl. * +

My Merlin had 81 gears at one point - 3 on the front, a 9-speed rear cassette plus a 3-speed rear hub.

Well, as this has been bumped... My Mini has 6 gears. Plus R. For Race.

Incidentally, the Porsche 959 had G as well as R. The G stood for Gangster, and meant you could cruise through the 'hood at walking pace...
