Laura cleaned it up and went to bed with a mental note to speak to her upstairs neighbour ,see if he'd had similar problems ..
That opportunity arose the very next evening as they arrived at their adjacent front doors together...she'd introduced herself when moving in and thought Tom a somewhat studious but friendly enough fellow ...she enquired immediately if he'd had any problems with his chimney ..was it her imagination or did he freeze momentarily ? No,none he said quickly ,must get on he added opening his door ,see you later ...
She entered her home and immediately inspected the living room ,no more mess she noticed with some relief ...she laughed at herself as she entered the kitchen ,she was a levelled headed journalist with no superstions what so...what the hell she exclaimed out loud as she switched on the light ....the kitchen was bright and modern ,the only nod to its victorian origins in here was an aga ...set in the recess which once would have housed the fireplace ...every door on the aga was open and on the white floor were black smudges ,grabbing her phone she took pictures and vowed to contact the previous owners via the estate agents first thing ....grabbing a pail and rubber gloves she cleaned up and spent the rest of the evening on her latest report ...
