The man charged with setting off a fireball at a bank and injuring 33 people - because he believed bank staff were slow to serve him - denies intending to harm anyone and has been committed to trial.

CCTV vision played to Melbourne Magistrates Court shows panic-stricken people fleeing the Commonwealth Bank branch in Springvale on November 18 last year when Nur Islam lit a puddle of petrol he'd poured.
Part of the vision played on Tuesday shows people rushing out the front doors before a fireball engulfs the camera.

Chief Crown prosecutor Gavin Silbert, QC, said 37 people were inside the Springvale Road branch when Mr Islam lit the fire at 11.30am, and 33 of them suffered injuries.
Four were seriously hurt and Mr Islam also suffered burns to 60 per cent of his body, the court heard.

''In the ensuing pandemonium there was a stampede to leave the bank with some people being trapped by the security door and others running through flames and sustaining serious injuries,'' Mr Silbert said.
Mr Islam, a 22-year-old Rohingyafrom Myanmar who was at the time on a bridging visa, pleaded not guilty to all 108 charges, as he disputes there being any intention to hurt anybody. * +

Defence counsel Barnaby Johnson conceded his client lit the fire and that people were injured, but said Mr Islam never intended to injure anyone.
Among the charges he faces are four counts of intentionally causing serious injury and 29 of intentionally causing injury.
Mr Johnston said the first time Mr Islam knew people were inside the bank when the fire started was when he was shown the CCTV footage by police.

What kind of precious fu*king snowflake sets people on fire because he had to wait in line a bit too long?

No wonder they aren't welcome in Myanmar. * +

Guy is way too slow at learning how to be civilised.
He should think about his actions on the 500km swim back from his Tasman sea drop off point * +

Oh yeah..
My intention is for him to swim back and become a better person...
Not drown or become food for ocean dwelling creatures.
Just had to clear that up. * +
