Been on the news today, teenage girl died suddenly a few years ago. Grieving parents allowed her organs to be donated. Believed now that her organs saved/helped the lives of 8 people. Wonderful parents to do that * +

Saw this on the news earlier. The most people's lives saved by a single organ donor, not sure if it said that was just by a British donor, or worldwide. Either way it's remarkable.
I also absolutely agree with what one of the medical guys interviewed said when asked about the shortage of donated organs and organ transplant waiting lists: 'Anyone who would be willing to accept a donated organ to save their own life, really should carry a donor card themselves.'(or words to that effect) I've got one. * +

It's amazing the bits they can re-use nowadays, not just major organs. If your eyesights any good someone could still have your corneas, for example. They can even do full face transplants for people who've been terribly facially disfigured, they just remove the disfigured one and stitch a donor's face on instead.
