A ''mosquito tone'' is simply a 17KHz sine wave that geeky youngsters have been known to use on their cell phone to alert them when theyve got a text message so the teachers cant hear it. See, studies say that most of us old folks (Im over 30 now) cant hear much above the 13-14KHz range.

My son was complaining about this in class today, it seems the teachers really can't hear this noise. They don't know if it's just a prank or real * +

My kids aren't allowed phones out in school full stop if they get seen they get taken off them till the end of the day where the parent has to collect them. * +

I can hear up to 15kHz. So yeah I can't hear the high frequency of some of these. * +
