Sunday is a day for deep thought, it's got the qualities of a day suited for it. Not so much for taking in new info as processing everything you've taken in over the last week. I've been reading about quantum mechanics and a bit about the nature of the universe (as we know it).

Thinking.. thinking way too much about why anything exists at all, why not just have an absolute void of nothingness and timelessness?

But then, of course, there is a possible answer for that: many worlds interpretation states that there are universes that failed to take off the same particular way ours did. Inflation didn't happen right, or the strength of gravity was too weak etc any number of factors. * +

I watched a thing about string theory the other day. It was one of those things I heard a million times and still didn't actually know what it was. I'm still not sure I know what it is. lol * +

Science can explain such things to us, but it can hit walls or come up with some strange paradoxes along the way too - that's all part of the thought processes involved. It occurs to me there is a missing (and very important) piece of the puzzle that science will always tend to leave out or be unable to explain: consciousness itself.

We observe things and, apparently, in effect we change what we observe. Something strange is going on, but what? * +

Ok string theory states there are 10 dimensions all up, it's been around for some time. The latest thing is M-Theory (they talk about these things called 'branes' or membranes) essentially they theorize that our own universe was created when two of these 'branes' collided! It fits in well with the multiverse idea, basic idea being you think of the universe as a bubble.. Then you look closer, that bubble is connected to a few bubbles, maybe some of them are different sizes, shapes etc different laws of physics in each one. * +

There was something I posted a while back, the idea that consciousness isn't bound to this one form of existence as we know it. The idea that came to me from that was that there could even be a universe of almost pure consciousness, pure thought! There is absolutely no way to prove that idea, but you know what it sounds like..

A few other things got me thinking.. the lego robot worm with the 'worm mind' implanted into it. Are living organisms really much different to that thing? Are we just organic robots that 'contain' consciousness? * +

So the idea I had is this, there is this realm of pure thought and energy.. I'm not sure how it works. There could no need for light/time/space as we know it. For whatever reason, this pure consciousness begins to think and ponder upon fluctuations of energy in its own realm.. BANG!

Something has come into existence, but what? Pure thought investigates and at some point realizes it can insert itself into various organic entities that populate these realms. Consciousness, in this scenario, predates even the universe as we know it. An Ultimate Observer of some kind sets all these events into motion. * +
