The disturbing truth about prisons in the UK is the prisoners now run them. The wardens have no control and are powerless. Prisoners get their own way and even can claim compensation.... What a fking disgraceful disrespect to decent hard working people. * +

Watched a documentary filmed in 2016 on Netflix not long ago about the state of uk prisons . It's not punishment it really is a holiday camp . * +

prisoners always have had a degree of control inside prison, They fight amongst themselves to be the top dog 'Daddie'. This position allows you to basically run things from a prisoners point of view. With all the cut backs in staffing levels then screws would sometimes seek the services of the 'Daddie' to keep things under control 
When i first started as a screw we had 6 officers per wing, this was cut to 3 when i left. You can not keep order and discipline with 3 officers per wing 
i believe its been cut yet again to 2 which is dangerous. * +
