Alan Turing (singlehandedly won WWII) was pardoned for 'gross indecency' 60 years ago. Now other, mostly dead, gay/bi men are being pardoned as well. A bit late if you ask me.. Also! Why don't the lesbians get a pardon? Not even a mention? * +

George Montague was convicted in 1974 of gross indecency with a man. He says he wants an apology - not a pardon.
''To accept a pardon means you accept that you were guilty. I was not guilty of anything. I was only guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,'' he told BBC Newsnight.
''I think it was wrong to give Alan Turing - one of the heroes of my life - a pardon.''
''What was he guilty of? He was guilty of the same as what they called me guilty of - being born only able to fall in love with another man.''

that was my thought when I heard about it too, the convictions should be overturned AND expunged from the record. they shouldn't need to ask to have it done which they were talking about yesterday. * +

They were due to be pardoned. Until conservative MP Sam Gyimah, the so called justice minister, fillibustered the bill by talking until the time limit ran out on the vote to approve it. Mr Gyimah actions were met with cries of 'shame!' from MP's of all parties. Shame indeed, anyone would think that this was the US congress/senate or something, were fillibustering is commonplace, certainly not behaviour becoming of a member of the british parliament. Disgraceful

I'm not sure if any lesbians were ever convicted under the archaic homosexuality laws, perhaps they were tolerated more than gay men or just didn't get caught

. Certainly seems it's only ever males that you here about that were persecuted. That's not to say they weren't, I really don't know. * +
