I'm using a Marantz cd6006 CD player which sounds absolutely awesome coupled to a Marantz pm8006 amp. Still not decided on speakers yet. * +

Thankfully my Cambridge stuff is old.
I do have an Azur 540 amp but i don't use it. Might put it in the bedroom but it's not warm enough, needs to be used as the higher frequency supply of a twin-amp combo. Or with active subs.
I have twins in the living room, but the amps are A300 and A500. Each of the four towers have 1x8in, 2x6in and a soft tweeter. They're based on Eltax Silverstone 220, i added the 8in subs into the side of them. The 500 powers the 8s, the 300 powers the rest.
Sounds crazy, but it's only about 460w RMS of amp into 740 RMS/nominal speakers. I live in a flat, after all.
It's a long room (or narrow), so the table is in one half of the room, and i sit near the centre mostly, in my chair. Here it sounds best. The rear half of the room isn't really part of the room (gangway, gerbils, doll's house etc). It doesn't sound so good from the sofa, as that's at the side of the room. Such is the nature of a speaker in each corner.
I shouldn't still live here. I wanna move. When i do, i'll get a place with a big room. My old flat and the family house were open plan, with the sofa in the middle, and that was much better for sound.
I play stuff through the laptop. It sounds okay. I've tweaked the equalisers to my preference. * +

I would probably go along the lines of Denon for your separates, and a decent valve tube amplifier, and Mordaunt short speakers. * +
