The prescription charge is
8.60, so even if each packet prescribed did cost the NHS
3.23, they're still
5.37 up per packet. I've had 2 doctors offer to prescribe me paracetamol before, the first one said that he could prescribe me it if I wanted but it'd be cheaper to just go and buy some(which I already knew), the second one automatically wrote out a prescription and tried to give me it with no such advice, he even seemed a bit annoyed when I refused to take it stating the much cheaper retail price. He wasn't surprised, he just looked slightly annoyed, like he'd lost a customer or something. * +

He had - it's their job to sell drugs. * +

And that 19p is shop price. It includes packaging, maximum handling and VAT. With the system in place, it could cost the NHS less than 10p.
They pay 3.23p because the corruption has evolved to total infrastructure. Paracetamol is one brick in a very big wall, that has got impossible to maintain because so many are feasting off it.
I'll be quite happy to see it brought down. Instead, we're gonna get a transition to a private system where little will change... Or just get worse. * +

No, their job is to treat their patients, but yes, that was my point.

A german scientist developed a capsule, and it cures heroin addiction in a single dose. Too good to be true? Google it, as it just got swept under the rug, making money with rehab seems more important than a quick cure..... *
