I have a somewhat ambivalent outlook on the place. In the midst of my more alcohol-addled moments (like now), I muse upon the millions of honest souls who built the city over many centuries, and I awe and its greatness. In sobriety, I tend to look upon it as a monument to colonialism, elitism, exploitation, inequality. I wonder what others think of the place. Utopia or dystopia? Cradle or grave? * +

I'm dying to visit. I have a mental idea of what it's like but I don't really know. I think being there and learning about it would give me an edge to form my own opinion about it. My ideas could all be superficial and I'm up for a rude awakening, but I'd still appreciate that. If it's anything like New York City, which I've heard then that's even better. * +
