I just witnessed a woman's handbag being stolen on street. Several people started shouting and running after the thief while someone took the victim into a building. About 10 minutes later, 14 men come walking back with the crook and her bag. The thief has blood on his face and is holding his head.

A work mate told me that earlier today two other men were beaten up when they were caught by the public trying to install a camera at an atm.

Yesterday thur was talk about people in a community who stabbed a r*pist.

This is happening more and more. What do u guys think, is it good or bad? * +

I think it's good. Jail and trials don't scare thiefs so much anymore but when ppl make a stand it speaks loud. Eventho it means more violence i dont mind it. * +

Teaching people that violence is wrong with more violence. Brilliant. Just brilliant. * +

i dont agree with vigilantism or mob justice. i dont believe in violence. i also think playing hero is dangerous.

but yes, it is probably most people's natural reaction to pursue somebody who has just fled with their wallet etc.

few years ago mrs T and i were walking past our local shop, a guy comes running out with a bottle of wine in his hand closely followed by the shopkeeper screaming THIEF a gang of young turkish guys grabed the shoplifter and beat him to a pulp, one guy was stamping on his hand, mrs T turns to me and says go and help him, stop them, i said fk off you stop them. Local justice is sometimes called for nod.gif bet the shoplifter has never stole anything since ! * +

I don't like mob justice when it goes too far, like killing, burning cars etc but a little of showing that ppl actually intervene shoul put thiefs away * +

It's a bad reflection on the law.

It's fine when caught in the act by the public, this is like first aid for crime prevention - first policing.

The problem comes with second aid. That's when people get the wrong person, and innocent people are the subject of life-destroying vigilantism.

So it's a fail by the justice system for not having a grip on criminals when it leads to the latter.

But first policing, yeah, all for it, and I'd do my best to get someone stopped asap. * +
